(1) A supplier shall not shed load unless

(a) demand is likely to exceed supply as a result of a forced outage of a generating unit;

(b) it is necessary to preserve the security of the transmission and distribution system;

(c) it is necessary to reinforce or rehabilitate the distribution systems; or

(d) it is necessary for safety reasons.

(2) Where the supplier decides to shed load under sub-rule (1), the supplier shall immediately notify the Commission and the PURC of the intended load shedding either by

(a) telephone, or

(b) electronic mail, followed by a notice in writing.

(3) The supplier, in addition to notifying the Commission and the PURC under sub-rule (2), shall by a notice carried in the newspapers and on radio or television inform the public of any intended load shedding and the duration of it.
